The DMC 5 trailer was showcased during the 2018 game awards and we were really excited to see that you can play as three different characters in the game: Dante, Nero, and V. Capcom is calling it the cameo system. That being said, Capcom has released more details on the cameo system and how it will be used when playing online co-op.
Devil May Cry 5 will have the traditional single player story mode where you will play as the three protagonists. You will be able to experience each character’s perspective of the overall story campaign and at certain point in the story you will cross paths with each character.
According to Capcom, if you play Devil May Cry Online, (which is tied to the single-player campaign) the characters you will come across will be actual players. You will be able to interact with the player but for the most part, the player will be in the background. The only time you can fully co-operate is when you are fighting side by side against bosses or during extensive combat within the level, whereby you can perform combos off of each other in the same battle.
Capcom has confirmed that the game will still be single-player so you can play the game offline and won't be affected by server downtime or wait long hours for matchmaking with another player. So when there are no player to connect, the game will automatically use the “ghost characters” recorded by the development team. That being said, if you happen to encounter another player going into battle, you will be prompted to rate the player after the battle. Players with good rankings will then unlock rewards.
Apart from the three playable characters and the cameo system, Devil May Cry 5 will feature updated combat mechanics and weapons. You can be sure the game will be combo heavy with an abundance of weapons similar to the previous Devil May Cry 4 title. The game is scheduled to be released on March 8th2019.
